And now you are intended to make your iPhone ringtones unique using your favorite songs downloaded/purchased from iTunes for free. But customizing a ringtone and setting it for your iPhone is a complex task. And that's why we are here – We will step-by-step show you how to create ringtones for your iPhone in iTunes for free.

Note: For DRM-free songs or audio files stored in your iTunes library, you can convert them into an iPhone ringtone using iTunes. As for DRM-protected Apple Music, however, you need to bypass the DRM protection first before converting the M4P format to M4R rintone because Apple prevent its users from customizing or converting Apple Music playlist as ringtone.

Step 1. Customize Song Length
#1. Select a song: Launch iTunes in your Windows/Mac computer. If you haven't got an iTunes program, download it from the Apple official website first. When iTunes is open, choose the song you want to turn into ringtone from the library. Then right-click the song or click the three-dot icon to activate the option list so that you can select the "Song Info" option.
Note: You can choose the latest pop songs from the Apple Music's Top Album of 2017.
#2 Customize the song length: In the song info page, navigate to the "Option" section. Tick the "start" and "stop" box, and customize the start time and stop time for the ringtone. Then, select "OK".
Step 2. Convert the Song into AAC Format
#1 Navigate to "Edit" > "Preferences" as shown in the following figure.
#2 Click the "General" pane if the General Preferences page not yet selected. Then click the "Import Settings…." button.
#3 In the "Import Settings" pop-up, select "AAC Encoder" from the "Import Using" drop-down list. Next, click "OK" to confirm your option. Please note that settings in this page do not apply to songs downloaded from the iTunes Store.
#4 Select the target song. Then navigate to "File" > "Convert". Select "Create AAC Version". iTunes will convert the song into AAC file within several seconds.
Step 3. Modify the Converted Track Extension
#1 When conversion is done, the converted file will be displayed in the playlist. Right-click the track and then select "Show in Windows Explorer".
Please note that the converted track name is identical with the original filename. You can distinguish the converted song from the two according to the track length.
#2 In the Windows Explorer, right-click the song ended with .m4a extension. Then modify the extension into .m4r.
Step 4. Delete the New Short Song
#1 Go back to iTunes. Locate the newly created short song. Right click the item or click the three-dot icon. Then select "Delete from Library".
#2 When asked whether to delete the selected song from your iTunes library, please choose "Delete Song".
#3 When asked whether to move the selected song to the Recycle Bin, or keep it in the iTunes Media folder, please select the latter – Keep File.
Step 5. Transfer Ringtone to iPhone
#1 Go back to Windows Explorer in Windows/Finder in Mac and double click on the .m4r file you created before. The ringtone will automatically transfer to your iTune's Tone library.
#2 Connect your iPhone to iTunes with the iOS USB cable.
#3 Select the "Tones" tab from the iPhone section.
#4 Under the "Tones" section, select "Sync All Tones" and then click on the "Sync" button at the bottom of the iTunes screen.
#5 When your iPhone is done syncing, you can find the new ringtone in your iPhone's "Settings" app.
#6 Navigate to "Settings" > "Sounds" > "Ringtone", and select the new ringtone. The track can also be apply as text message tones.
Done! Now you can enjoy your very personalized phone whenever someone calls you. All iTunes music playlists (DRM-free) can be converted to iPhone ringtone format with the steps mentioned above.
